Evolution of Home Based Business Models

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

web profits clubThe development of business models has a brief
history. The oldest, most basic business model is the
shopkeeper model.

This involves setting up a store in a location where
customers are likely to be and displaying their
product or service for all the passer-bys to see.

Up over the years, business models have evolved,
changed and become more sophisticated.

The bait and hook business model was introduced in the
early 20th century. This model involved offering a
basic service for a low cost, often at a loss.

This part is the bait. Then by charging compensatory
recurring amounts for refills or other products or
services, this is the hook.

Examples are the razor, which is the bait, and blades,
which are the hook, cell phones that are the bait and
the service charges and airtime that are the hook.

In the 1950s new business models came from some of
today’s well-known companies like McDonalds and
Toyota.

In the 1960’s Wal-Mart was the innovator and the
1970’s saw new business models from FedEx, Toys R Us,
the 1980’s pushed Blockbuster, Home Depot and many
computer companies to the forefront with their
innovative business models.

In turn, many dot-coms suffered because of their
poorly thought out business models.

Today’s business models depend on how the technology
available is used. Entrepreneurs on the Internet have
also created new models that depend on the emergent of
technology.

Using computer technology, a business has the
advantage of reaching a large amount of customers with
a minimal cost.

Data Insurance Is Important To Modern Business

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

There are all kinds of different insurance policies that you can get but the latest really has to do with one of the threats that many business people don’t think about until it’s too late and that’s data insurance. When you really think about it, the need to protect you information from both malicious hackers and natural disasters makes a lot of sense.

Global Economy

Remember that we live in a global economy now and that to a large extent it’s the Internet that’s made it all possible. Now with all the latest wireless interfaces that have sprung up over the last decade or so, there has been the unfortunate possibility that some of the information that gets passed around through cyberspace will get lost or damaged. Hence there was a need early on for the right kind of data insurance to make sure that the files that were being passed didn’t go missing permanently. Floppy Disks One of the early attempts to make sure that these files and other kinds of information were kept safe were the floppy disks that some of us still remember. Of course the problem with these was the fact that they could be lost or stolen , so in the end they gave away to the very technology that invented them. That was the birth of the flash drive or memory stick as they’re commonly called. Once again these were a step forward as far as convenience went, but their compact size was and is their Achilles’ heel. These can easily be lost or stolen. Remote Backups Eventually business became aware that they needed a more secure solution for their data protection and they started to look for a toward the IT industry itself to solve their problem. This was in effect the beginning of the online backup service and the companies that you see now that offer the best in remote backup solutions. This has been seen as the answer by many of the forward thinking firms in the business world since this is the way that any information can be retrieved from an outside source who’s job it is to keep that information safe. This is the safe and secure way to do business in today’s world since the data insurance implemented today often involves the very best technologies like Cisco. Of course the real appeal for the security conscious here is the fact that all the data is backed up offsite in a secure location where it can’t be tampered with. Most of these companies boast an efficient combination of software and a solid infrastructure. Choosing The Best Online Backup Service

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Once you’ve seen the light and decided to go with an online backup service so that you’ll be able to feel secure about your mission critical information and it’s safety, there are a few others things that you’ll need to decide to ensure that you get the right fit. Remember that while all of these services do their best to provide the very best in data security, there are some that are can be more specific to an individual firm’s needs. That said, here’s a list of the things that you should be looking for:

  • Flexibility. Does the place that you’re considering have a variety of backup plans to choose from? The best of these online backup services will be able to allow for the diversity of services and offer something in the small MB to the larger GB range. As well, it’s generally considered the mark of a confident place if they offer a trial so you can test their systems out.
  • You’ll want to have a good look at their software features as well. Remember that the software is like the engine that will run the whole service so you’ll want to make sure that the one you’ve got is top notch. Look for a few things like an easy system restore and a series of fast efficient backups that will allow for a certain piece of mind.

These are just a few of the things that you need to be looking at when you’re shopping for the best in remote backups, but you need to be aware that these are the very services that will ensure that a disaster in the form of lost information doesn’t happen to your company. By taking just a little extra time to select the best that you can afford, you can move forward with the other more pressing things that your company demands.

There’s a Good Reason For Remote Backups

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Data Protection is the Holy Grail of Internet commerce. While it’s easy to get the idea underway for what you hope will be a great ecommerce enterprise, making sure that the information  that you gather and store in your computer can be a daunting task. There people out there who will tell you what you need to keep that information safe, but most of them are wrong. It’s not that they’re bad people or crooks of any kind. It’s just that they don’t have the experience to tell you what you really need to get the job of data protection done right.

So, the real question is: what do you need to ensure a reasonable level of data security? Well, there are a few things that should help you decide and the factors include:

  1. What Kind Of Business You’re in. Especially if you’re working in a global environment where there is a large amount of information changing hands every day, you need the kind of data backups that will guarantee you  that your information will be both safe and accessible at all times but only to you and that select few that you choose.
  2. How Many Files You’ve Got To Backup And Their Size. The kind of plan that you can be offered usually depends on the sizes and amounts of files that you’ve got to backup.

Of course there are other indicators that should help you in getting to know what kind of remote backup plan that you’ll need, and one of these is the old standby of customer service. Although many of these online backup services are automated, it’s a great comfort to know that you can access their  customer support people when and if you need to quickly since having all your critical information right at your fingertips is essential to running a business the proper way.

The Right Data Protection Feeds Profits

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

When you’re looking at ways that you can improve the profits in any business, one of the ways that you’ll want to look at is proactive in the sense of data protection. We’ve all heard the stories about people losing valuable business and not because the customer wasn’t satisfied with their efforts but rather because they experienced one of those disasters that cost them a computer crash. Granted, most of the reasons for these impossible situations can be prevented with the right kind of planning, but it’s unfortunate that more business owners don’t know about the ways that the right data protection system can help you out.

There are a few things that are nothing short of requirements here and the first of these is that the company that you choose to go with be an off site firm. Remember that these are the companies that usually also have the very best when it comes to data security as well. Here you need to be assured that the firm has an above average customer relations department as well and one that will be on call for you to come to them 24/7.

One of the other things that can help you decide is a quick overview of the reputation of the place that you’re considering. And there’s a great way that you can judge this and that’s by having a look at their affiliate program and if those people are willing to supply testimonials as well the further the company’s name.

Of course there are other factors that you should consider and one of these is the online backup software that they use. Take a look and decide if that software has at least a few of the following features.

  1. Quick and Easy File Sharing That’s Always Available. Here you want to be able to work on any file at home and then share that file with your company’s remote account.
  2. Accommodate Large Files. The online backup service that you use should have the capability of letting you work on large files and back them up or share them as well.

Data Backups Save Money And Time

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

In the end it all comes down to the bottom line and that’s the dollar. You need to make as much money as possible or there wouldn’t be any reason for you to be in business. And part of that is making sure that the tools you use don’t break down. A carpenter isn’t much good without a hammer and a painter wont be able to do anything without a set of brushes. Well, it’s the same for people who work on the Internet or have a Web based company. There’s not much they can do if they lose all the information that they’ve stored in their computers.

And that kind of disaster happens more often than you might think. Information gets lost all the time on the Internet and the reasons can generally be classified under a few headings that include:

  • Natural Disasters. Little can be done to stop some of nature’s surprises that can wipe a hard drive out.
  • Viruses and Worms. As much as we might try to stop them, these still have a way of sneaking around some of the defenses that we put up to try and stop them.
  • Malicious People. There are even those around us who try to sabotage our business efforts.

So it should be very apparent that you need some kind of defense against all the things that line up against you and an online backup service is often the answer that keeps business working without undue stress. One of the things that should help you decide about which of these you’ll use should be the online backup software that the firm employees and how the features that it has can benefit your needs. When you’re looking at the software, you’ll want to see that the it has:

  • Backup Email Alerts. These are sent to you if your account remains inactive for even a short period of time.
  • Extended Data Recovery. A good firm will archive files for a month before they get permanently deleted to cover any accidents that can be easily fixed before the information gets lost for good.Dan Dugal is the CEO of Remote Data Backups, a successful date protection company with hundreds of satisfied customers. Why you Need The Best in Remote Data Backups

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

There’s no one in business that will argue the fact that one of the most important assets that any company has is its information. Without that, no one that could run a successful business. Can you imagine how shocked you’d be to find that all your contacts were lost because there had been fire at the location where you had stored you computer with that information on it? Think about what could happen to your firm if a disgruntled ex employee broke in one night and deleted all you mission critical files?

Mission Critical

These scenarios bring up an interesting point and that’s there’s not only a need for data security to prevent these things from spelling the end of your business, but there’s a need for remote backups so that you don’t leave all your eggs in the one basket. What would you do if your firm lost all of its data? Of course there are those business owners who suggest that the best way to go about data protection is to physically back up the data each night and take it off site, but to do this properly the business owner would need to detail a procedure out in the training manual and see to it that part of the job is carried out every night.

Data Protection

The more expedient way is to sign on with a data protection service. These are always state of the art and the best of them have automatic nightly backup procedures and the cost of using one of these services is minimal when compared to what it would cost to replace all of the lost data due to some kind of mishap. When you’re looking to sign up with one of these services take a look at not only what they can offer you in the way of technology, but what kind of buzz they create when it comes to franchisees and resellers.

The best of these data protection services will have good credentials as well in the form of testimonials from satisfied customers. Of course there are other things that you need to look for as well like the software that can provide fast efficient backups and the quickest in remote file access. It’s essential to remember here that not all of these data protection services are created equally. There are some that are better than others and generally it’s obvious in their reputations.

Franchisee’s Data Protection Needs Are Critical

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Perhaps there’s not another place in the business world where there’s a bigger need for data protection than with the franchisee. When you consider that all of the mission critical information that is stored on all the PCs that a franchise might operate could be destroyed by a number of factors, the need for some manner of online backup service becomes clear. It’s common knowledge that the information that every business has is one of the more valuable assets that it owns and to lose it without the capability of getting it back could be devastating.

Many franchisees are not even fully aware of the variety of ways that they can lose this information. Here’s a partial list of the threats that the common business owner faces.

  1. Natural Disasters. Here’s the one that many don’t think of until they’ve experienced dramatic file loss as a result from a fire or flood. Remember that only remote backups will save you here. Any of the conventional ways of data protection like CD Roms and FlashDrives will be lost in a natural disaster with the computer or laptop.
  2. Human Error. Everyone means well and wants to remember to save all the information every night, but we’re all just human in the end.
  3. Malicious Ex Employees and Vandals. Another form of human error. Quite often people can learn to use the computer for all the wrong reasons as well.
  4. Worms and Viruses. These are generally considered to be the old standbys that we all hope to be protected from, but these little pests seems to find their way through some of the data protection devices that we install.

All of these problems can be averted by subscribing to the right online backup storage facility. One of the things that you’ll want to do before you select any one of these is look for the ones that suits you company’s particular needs. There are many of these places on the market today and there are a few things that can tip you off about their reputation.

First off have a look at the testimonials on their website to see if they’ve got glowing reports that are verifiable. There’s no use in looking at a firm that uses fake testimonials or has what appears to be a shady affiliate plan. Remember that the right data protection service is a combination of several things.
